The William R. McKenney Foundation, a 501 (c)(3) organization, was founded in 2020. The board consists of business and community leaders who are committed to the preservation of this important landmark.
The McKenney Foundation has been working diligently since its establishment. Sadler and Whitehead Architects were hired to create a detailed Historic Structures Report which provided valuable insight into the building’s unique architectural features and historical significance. In addition, a Feasibility and Sustainability Study has been conducted to explore future plans for the building ensuring that it remains a viable and sustainable asset for years to come.
Furthermore, the Foundation has taken steps to have the building added to the Virginia Landmark Register demonstrating their commitment to preserving and honoring its rich history.
Enteros Design Architects have been tasked with developing a conceptual design for the space. The architects are excited to bring their vision to life and are committed to delivering a stunning transformation that will benefit the community.
The Foundation has begun the process of hiring an Executive Director for the Center and launching a Capital Campaign to raise funds for the renovation.
